PNG to JPG questions
What happens to transparent pixels?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas must be flattened onto a solid background. Choose a background that matches the page, design or marketplace where you will use the image.
Will JPG always be smaller?
Often for photographic content, but not always. Final size depends on image dimensions, complexity and quality settings. Logos and flat graphics can sometimes be better kept as PNG.
Convert PNG images for smaller, widely compatible files
JPG is commonly accepted by websites, email clients, document software and photo workflows. Converting a PNG can also reduce file size when the image is photographic and transparency is not required.
Transparent areas cannot be preserved in JPG, so check the output background before using it. Logos and graphics that depend on transparency are usually better kept as PNG or WebP.
